I want Jerry Dudley to run for Congress first and foremost because the era of career politicians needs to end. As our founding fathers intended, we need citizen representation in congress, not professional bureaucrats who love their cushy jobs as legislators more than they love their country. Jerry Dudley has spent his entire life as a small businessman, rarely, if ever, receiving a salary, directly earning by his own labor every dollar that has come to him. Jerry knows what it takes to run a small business, to worry about where one’s next meal will come from—he knows what it’s like to sacrifice and scratch and claw for survival. It’s Jerry’s all-American background that interests me first and foremost in having him represent the people of the
Secondly, Republicans of the 5th District of Missouri have demonstrated that they are entirely incapable of defeating Emmanuel Cleaver, who is a national embarrassment. It’s time for new blood to enter the Republican party, persons who are disconnected from the party bureaucracy and from the way things are done. Jerry Dudley knows politics and government but is more connected to his community through his friendships, his marriage, his children, his work and his house of worship. He is new blood—a guy who can get his hands dirty and go right to the people of the 5th District and talk directly to them as a fellow American who genuinely understands their struggles.
Finally, I’ve gotten to know Jerry and I know that he is sincere in his desire to make a difference in this country. He isn’t interested in self promotion, grandstanding, prevarication, hair-splitting and every other political device used by self-interested, self-centered ambitious politicians. Jerry cares passionately about the issues and not his own ambitions—because his only ambition is to help improve the lives of residents of Greater Kansas City in their struggle against power centralized in
